Over 11,000 Take the Plunge in Hungary's Largest Open Water Swim 🏊‍♂️

Lake Balaton, Hungary's "Hungarian Sea," played host to a record-breaking number of swimmers this past July. The 42nd annual Balaton Crossing saw a staggering 11,000 participants dive into the cool waters for a 5.2 kilometer (3.2 mile) challenge across the lake. While the event is considered a race, with the fastest men finishing neck-and-neck, the vast majority of participants take part for the experience and the camaraderie.

Originally scheduled for Saturday, the competition was postponed due to unpredictable weather. Thankfully, Sunday dawned clear, with air temperatures around 20°C (68°F) and the water a refreshing 25-27°C (77-81°F). This year's event solidified the Balaton Crossing's position as one of Europe's most popular open water swims, attracting not only competitive athletes but also leisure swimmers seeking to conquer a personal challenge and enjoy the stunning scenery of Lake Balaton.

Sports Viewership Soars by 150% in Global Streaming Surge!

The recent "13th Amagi Global FAST Report" underscores a significant shift in the streaming landscape, highlighting the burgeoning popularity of sports content on free ad-supported streaming (FAST) channels. According to the report, there has been a staggering 150% increase in global sports-channel viewership, alongside a 65% rise in live sports content available on these platforms over the past year. This growth is part of a broader trend, with overall FAST viewing rising by 40% year over year. Srinivasan KA, Amagi's co-founder and chief revenue officer, emphasized that this integration of sports content into FAST platforms presents new opportunities for both established leagues and niche sports to expand their audiences and generate distribution revenue.

The report draws on data from over 2,800 channels utilizing Amagi's THUNDERSTORM server-side ad insertion platform and insights from a survey of 128 streaming, broadcast, and sports executives. It reveals that North America leads in this trend, with the U.S. and Canada experiencing triple-digit growth in sports-channel viewership and impressions, accounting for 60% of global viewership. The Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) region also saw substantial growth, with sports channel viewership increasing by about 4.5 times, driven largely by new channel additions. The report highlights that one-third of executives prioritize live sports in their FAST content strategies, reflecting increased advertising interest in live sports. Furthermore, new channels launched within the last year have been pivotal in driving nearly one-third of FAST's viewership growth, attracting new content providers and expanding the platform's reach.
